The Immaculate Conception Church

The Immaculate Conception Church

The Immaculate Conception Church

It is quite rare for a Catholic Christian to feel lost in a church.
TheImmaculate Conception at the Cape is upsetting because of the rare and not easily accessible iconographic choices, including sculptures, frescoes and engravings, all of excellent workmanship.

  • Duration

    3/4h | from 9 to 13 or from 14 to 18

  • Price

    100€ | from 1 to 3 participants | 15€ each extra participant

Our visit summarizes years of study to understand the Jesuit logic of this temple, among the masterpieces of Baroque in Italy.

The participant is invited to return to the tensions inside and outside the Latin Church on leaving the Council of Trent (1563).

The evocation of the Society of Jesus and its importance so quickly assumed since its foundation, the imperialist domination of the Habsburgs and the passion for the discovery of the world, all this constitutes the plot of the decoration of this absolutely superlative church.

The surprises are not lacking, including the admiration clearly but not innocently expressed by the Jesuits for the Dominican Order.

The convergence of all the tracks, of every detail observed, is the triumph of the "immaculist" revolutionary creed, the true battle horse of the Society of Jesus that will succeed in imposing the need for it, even prive of evidence, from 1624, in their seats in Seville, Naples and Palermo...

The rest of the world will not be easy to convince, forcing the Church to use of a dogma in 1864.

A visit therefore of high cultural profile to better enjoy the exceptional beauty of this masterpiece.
